What India was watching in 2012

Korean pop star PSY became a worldwide phenomenon this year thanks to his Gangnam Style video going viral online. Last year, Kolaveri Di had become a national obsession — it spawned several clones in multiple languages — right through this year. Both videos can thank YouTube for raising them to cult status. This year, the video streaming website has come out with what the country has been watching in 2012. Did you know, for example, that YoYo Honey Singh’s ‘Brown Rang’ was the top trending YouTube video this year, followed by ‘Gangnam Style’, beating ‘Mashallah’ from Ek Tha Tiger, which took the third spot? Of course, except for the top two videos, the rest were all songs from Bollywood films. No surprise then that T-Series was the most-subscribed channel. TV soap Bade Acche Lagte Hai was the most watched TV show, indicating that either the soap or YouTube has transcended age barriers. And, it came as no surprise that Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan’s was the most-watched trailer (Click on graphic)
